Canoeing on the Dordogne River

We hired a canoe and paddled 15 km downstream to Vézac
passing the medieval villages of Vitrac and La Roque Gageac
and Castelnaud Castle (where we'd visited a few days before.)

We made a few stops on the way down for lunch and a paddle
and afterwards, Maisy squeezed into the gap at the front of the canoe and fell asleep while we paddled on!

Our trip ended with a view of Beynac fort
and a well earned chocolate waffle, or two.

By far one of the best days of our holiday!

Sarlat-la-Canéda

A wander around Sarlat, and a hunt in vain
for an open restaurant, but we'd missed the French 'lunch window'
by about an hour and had to settle for pizza and vin rose instead.

Afterwards, we were entertained by some street performers
in front of the medieval Cathedral and it was all going so well until the sword swallower revealed his secret.

Sword swallowing acts just won't be the same again.

Chateau de Castelnaud

Coffee and hot chocolates, and games of 'Pass the Pigs'
in the medieval village of La Roque-Gageac
before a climb up to the Château de Castelnaud
which stands high over the Dordogne valley.

Outside - amazing views of the river below
and the nearby châteaux of Beynac and Marqueyssac.
and inside - a huge collection of arms, armour
and furniture from the Middle Ages.

On the way down, a stop off in a tavern
built into the castle walls, for sandwiches
and chantilly topped ice cream.

We could get used to this.

Chartres

We made many stops on our epic drive from Calais
to Sarlat in the Dordoigne region of France.
But the most memorable was our visit to Chartres
where we had a bit of a wander around he city
to stretch our legs, and to visit Chartres Cathedral.

We Sold Our Van...

...after a couple of hours on Ebay,
a very nice lady called us to say she really wanted to buy it
and she drove down from Manchester
to take it to its new home
where she's got great things planned for it!

We were all sad to see it go, but have plans afoot
for lots more festivals and camping trips.

Wookey Hole

After Farm Festival, we decided not to go home
but drove over to Wookey Hole instead,
drank pear cider and ate Sunday Lunch at The Wookey Hole Inn
then camped at Lower Milton Farm.
A beautiful campsite - and a fitting place
to spend our last-ever-night in the caravan.

A wee film of our weekend at the
Farm Festival in Somerset...

Great company, great music
and the rain stopped just in time

Good times!

Sports Days

Two 'Sports Days' in one day.

First up was Maisy.

The Green Team (St. Patrick's)

The obstacle race

The bat and beanbag race
Next up was Jamie...

Let's just say he improved his ranking from last year.
Must be all that training he's been doing.

Best friends.
Molly's turn came later that day.

Collecting her prize.

Waiting to start the relay race.

Even the teachers had a go....
